The Course

COM 305 Listening

The study of the art of listening and its importance in our personal and professional lives.  Project description: Students will conduct interviews with African American professionals about the role listening plays in their profession with particular attention to opportunities listening has created and challenges of listening in the workplace. Students will be responsible for (1) conducting, transcribing, and coding the interview, (2) producing a written analysis of their findings, and (3) creating a brief video illustrating the important concepts from their analysis.

About Anne Stone

Assistant Professor of Communication Anne Stone  holds a masters and a PhD in Health Communication from the University of Illinois, and has vast experience and knowledge in areas such as how illness impacts interpersonal and family relationships. She has written several articles related to helping improve communication between health care providers, patients, and family members. At the moment, Stone is working on an article focused on waiting room experiences at the hospital and she gives recommendations to help families in those tough moments. She has a great interest in helping people and improving communication in the health care field.
