Grade a TurnItIn Assignment

  1. Log into Blackboard.
  2. Navigate to your course.

  3. Underneath the Course Management Control Panel, click Course Tools.

  4. Under Course Tools, click Turnitin Assignments

  5. Click on the name of the assignment you wish to grade

  6. Click the pencil icon under the Grade column of the user’s submission to grade and give feedback on the assignment. 
    Note: The paper will open in a new tab.

  7. To give students feedback (if you only wish to assign a grade, skip to Step 8):
    1. Feedback Method 1:
      1. Click anywhere on the page where you would like to leave a specific comment. Click the thought bubble that appears in the pop-up menu.Click thought bubble to comment.
      2. Add your feedback in the text box that appears. Click the trash can if you wish to delete the entire comment.

    2. Feedback Method 2:
      1. Click the Feedback Summary icon in the toolbar on the right hand side of your screen to give overall feedback on the entire submission.

      2. Add any comments or feedback you would like to share with the student in the Edit Text box.

  8. If you created the assignment with a rubric proceed to Step 8A to assign a grade. If the assignment does not have a rubric, proceed to Step 8B.
    1. Assign Grade with a Rubric
      1. Click on the Rubric/Form icon in the toolbar on the right hand side of your screen.

      2. Move the blue circles under each criterion to adjust the score you would like to give the student. This will automatically change the total grade given.Arrow to slider bars - move to adjust score.
      3. Click Apply to Grade when you have finished assigning point values for the assignment.
      4. Once you have finished grading the assignment, click the right arrow on the top right toolbar to navigate to the next student’s submission.Click arrow to next assignment - top right corner.
    2. Assign Grade without a Rubric:
      1. Without a rubric you must manually enter a grade. Click on the manual score entry box at the top of the page and input the desired score.

      2. Once you have finished grading the assignment, click the right arrow on the top right toolbar to navigate to the next student’s submission.Click arrow to next assignment - top right corner.
  9. Once you are finished grading all assignments, close out of the submission window. 
    Note: Refresh your browser and the assigned grades will appear in the Blackboard Grade Center.Confirmation Message - Grade appears in assignment list.
