Grade a Blackboard Assignment

  1. Log in to Blackboard and navigate to the desired course.
  2. On the left-hand menu, click Grade Center located underneath Control Panel. (You may have to scroll down to find this menu.)

  3. Click Needs Grading.

  4. For each student submission you’d like to grade, click their name, located in the third column entitled User Attempt. (The assignment name is displayed to the left of the name, in the second column of the table).Bb Needs Grading Table
    1. Certain files, such as Word Documents, will appear directly in Blackboard. This allows you to use the inline grading feature to comment directly on the paper. Click on the bubble icon or highlight text in the document to make a comment. More details about inline grading.

    2. For other file types, you will have to download the file directly. Click the icon with the down arrow either at the top of the document or next to the file name on the right of the screen.

  5. On the right underneath Assignment Details there is a section for the assignment’s score and any feedback you’d like to leave.

  6. Once you enter a score and (optionally) feedback, click Submit.
