Create a Turnitin Assignment

  1. Log in to Blackboard and navigate to your course.
  2. Navigate to the content area (i.e. Course Documents) you would like to post the assignment in.

  3. Make sure that Edit Mode is turned on. Arrow Pointing to Edit Mode On/Off
  4. Hover your cursor over the Assessments bar and click Turnitin Assignment.

  5. You may see a Turnitin User Agreement after opening the assignment. Read the agreement and select I Agree–Continue if you agree and wish to proceed.

  6. Select an assignment type and click Next Step.
    1. Note that the first time you create a Turnitin Assignment, you will only have the option to create a Paper Assignment. Select an Assignment Type - Arrow to "Next Step"
  7. Assign a Title for the assignment. If this is a graded assignment, also assign a Point Value.

  8. Ensure Allow only file types that Turnitin can check for originality is marked to make use of Turnitin’s originality checker.

  9. Specify the Start Date (when the assignment is first available), the Due Date, and the Post Date (when students will be able to access any feedback made on the document).

  10. Click Optional Settings to access additional settings like whether students can see the originality report or submit a file after the due date. Arrow to "Optional Settings"
  11. Clicking the blue question marks will give you more information on specific settings.Arrow to More Info on Individual Settings - Blue Question Marks
  12. Once you are finished, click Submit at the bottom.

  13. You will be notified upon successful creation of the assignment. Click Ok to return to the Blackboard course area.
