Born in 1944 in New Jersey, “Socky” (a nod to Socrates) is the Kenneth Curry Professor of Literature at Rollins College in Winter Park, FL. A prolific writer, he has written books such as The Florida Reader, a collection of anecdotes and writings about early explorers and settlers of Florida. An engaging professor, he also serves on the board of the Florida Historical Society and is looking forward to starting a microbrewery with his son. He has won countless awards, such as the William Fremont Blackman award for distinguished service in 2002, silver medals in both the Council for the advancement and Support of Education National Teacher of the Year program, the Bornstein award for Scholarship, the Arthur Vining Davis Award, The Hamilton Holt Teaching Award, two Hugh McKean awards, and in 2003 was awarded the distinguished colleague from the Florida College English Association.
