Dr. Gary R. Mormino

Born in 1947, Mormino is the Frank E. Duckwall Professor of History Emeritus at University of South Florida, St. Petersburg (USF). Since he started teaching at USF in 1977, Mormino has written various novels including Land of Sunshine, State of Dreams: A social history of Modern Florida (2005) as well as Immigrant on the Hill (1986) and The Immigrant World of Ybor City (1987), both of which won prestigious awards such as the Howard R. Marraro Prize and Theodore Saloutos Prize, respectively. More recently, Mormino has been named the Florida Humanities Council’s Florida first Humanist of the Year.
