The mind in the middle
This author of this article takes an example of an athlete to prove his point and to enforce his argument. The mind in the middle refers to student athletes that can only really be successful both academically and athletically if they balance out the two. When a student-athlete leans more towards athletics than academics, he or she will lack academically. The audience in this article is student athletes and prospective students to inform them on how tough it is being a student athlete. The author wants the student athletes to be aware that they will not have the normal college experience, they will miss out on many parties and events, and it is harder for them to have a social life.
