Eligibility standards – necessity or nemesis

In this article, The author argues that not enough attention is directed towards academics in the life of a student athlete, that the athlete becomes convinced of the fact that he or she was recruited only to be successful athletically and that his or her academic performances no not matter. This leads to a lack of motivation towards their academic career. The author finds as a solution that universities and colleges should adapt strict eligibility standards. However he also mentions the negative side of this solution and tries in the end to convince the audience of his statement. The audience in this article would be prospectives students, current student and their parents but most importantly the board of the schools or NCAA who can actually make the author’s solution reality
